I Love Glass

i was cleaning windows and shelves and generally making space in order to host my 2nd Annual Spring Show and Sale on June 2nd and 3rd and in that process i get to the higher shelves that i rarely touch...and on one of these shelves are my fave old timey jars.....i love the transparent turquoise coloured glass....it is the 1st glass i can remember seeing as a child....old bottles on the prairie.....the colour changed by years of lying in the sun....

this is an image of an old sealer jar of marbles, and an old sealer jar of seashells......

i love glass, it pleases me greatly to see this image...perfect time of day on this shelf!!

it feels good to clean up and reorganize my studio for the busy summer ahead!

i wonder what treasures you find when you clean up your creative space?

The Adventures of Packing Glass

this flower bouquet is on it's way to montreal to the Shayne Gallery....along with assorted glass bowls and platters....you can see a little of the process of packing glass to ship...it is my least favourite chore.....this is the one time when i can truly procrastinate....i imagine the ease of packing for textile artists or jewelers, although i am sure they have things i haven't thought of that they contend with ...

this bouquet is 51" tall so you need big boxes....and you need to create thick walls and lots of padding...especially for a trip that far east......

cricket always like to sit on any paper that gets set on the floor.....even a little bit of  scrap paper...it is cute..!!

i am happy to be sending some larger work out there, it is the 1st time for anything this large, although i have been showing and selling my glass there for several years.....  lauren, the owner, really likes the bouquet...i will be sending smaller ones out in the next few weeks also!

what is your shipping process like?

My Worktable Tonight and A School of Fish

it is amazing how cluttered and messy my work table can get, especially as i get ready for a show like i am now.....june 2nd and 3rd....my studio....love to see you...

i start off with a large, 4 feet x 8 feet surface and slowly slowly over days and weeks the edges start to come in on me.....till i only have less than 2 sq ft to actually work in......ahhhhh....time to make some room.....

i can't b r e a t h e in here anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

does this happen to you other creative types?

worktable and fish ready to fuse

i will show you some pix of these fish when they are fused and looking wavy and alive....

Beach Painted Driftwood and Jeff Molloy

this is just a short little post....many of us know the fun things you can do with paint and driftwood on the beach! although i really do love the look and feel of sea washed driftwood i was recently at a beach that had an overabundance of silver gray driftwood set within the natural temperate rainforest colours....soft grays and a million shades of green... subtle ya know? and i decided to play....this is lightly inspired (i say "lightly" because jeff's spirit poles are robust 6 feet tall pieces wrapped in encaustic and burlap and covered in paint!)  by a friend and amazingly  talented artist Jeff Molloy....he makes the most fabulous found art pieces out of driftwood and encaustic....and one of the smaller things he makes are "spirit poles"....he also makes huge encaustic installations and he is a fantastic painter...check him out, he is super talented and accomplished....and about to have a one man show in Toronto.....go Jeff!!

Things to do Today: Part 2

B R E A T H E........it is definitely a time in my life, for various reasons, that this simple list is more important than ever.....sometimes it feels as though there is a lot of tension in the air......and i feel this is true in a global sense, and also in a very local sense.....

however, taking a walk in nature always brings me back to my center....how about you?

B  R E A T H E.........it is always a good thing to be conscious of.....the breath...
